I'm intrigued by the process, especially the wait-time on Olivander's email responses. My process is much simpler. Steps 1-4 are the same, but Step 5 is to load up the offending machine and take it to North Little Rock, chit-chat a bit, then go home. Step six is to drive back to NLR a few days later, write a check, and take the sparkling typewriter home.

I don't pump my own gas either, so there's that.

Totally Monda's way. Even the road trip to North Little Rock is a good idea.

Ha! I have sooo been there, though I've typically gone straight to the Yahoo group. At this point, I know that really I should never ever ever bring home a typewriter that doesn't work perfectly from the get-go (with the exception of sticky keys). But as it is, I still have the 13" carriage SM-9, the SG-1 with its ribbon direction and margin issues, and a 50s Smith Corona with ribbon advance problems. I should really take at least the SG-1 to Blue Moon one of these days, if I can ever get over my fear of driving to Portland....

You do realize that any time I see an e-mail from you begging and pleading for help, I simply laugh haughtily and go back to sipping sherry.

Great work here. A lot better than my previous repair plan of:

1. Try to Type
2. Fail
3. Cry

I'm still in this phase. Pulled out the QDL today, did a bit of repair work, and discovered that it's more defunct than ever. Will be returning to the forum after a long absence and two still broken typewrtiers.

*sobs*
